For Years I Suffered with Headaches

Calgary, Alberta chiropractor, Dr. Naomi Ichii

For years I suffered with headaches and thought they were “normal”. I had never even considered doing anything about them until one of my best friends, who was attending Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College suggested that maybe chiropractic could help. I was intrigued, and hopeful, and made an appointment right away.

Chiropractic Was Perfect For Me

I was a little skeptical from the outset, but the results were amazing. My headaches were a thing of the past and unexpectedly, I had more energy, my focus and concentration were better and my mood improved as well. I had always had an interest in helping people and in the inner workings of the human body, and I realized that Chiropractic was the perfect profession for me.

My Chiropractic Education

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Toxicology at the University of Toronto, then was accepted to attend Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, at that time, the only Chiropractic college in Canada. Chiropractic college instilled a good foundation in technique, however, I had strong ideas even back then, that I wanted to practice with a gentle, yet effective technique. I arranged to study additional techniques, namely Activator and Chiropractic Biophysics outside of our college curriculum. After graduating in 1996, I came straight to Calgary with Dr. Richard Yoshimura, now my husband and business partner, to establish a practice. In 2002, we decided to practice together at what is now Embody Wellness.

Our Mission at Embody Wellness

Our mission is to make the world a better place by helping as many people as possible to achieve wellness through chiropractic, wellness coaching and education. We truly wish to help people live better lives. We give people the tools and information they need to be healthier and allow them to make better choices for themselves and their families. Those who do best under our care realize that they have ultimate accountability for their health and well-being and truly want to make lifestyle choices which improve their health, level of performance, enjoyment and quality of life. We believe so strongly in our purpose and mission, that our team travels to conferences several times per year to ensure we are on the leading edge of clinical information and technology.  Witnessing and being a part of the healing process and the life-changing results our practice members receive is deeply fulfilling.

At Home

Dr. Richard and I have been blessed with the most amazing and beautiful daughter (we’re biased)! We love to get out to the mountains or the coast, and surf, jog, mountain bike, climb, cross country ski, and hike, and hope to instill the same appreciation for physical activity and love of nature, in our daughter.

With our busy and active lifestyles, we regularly get our chiropractic “tune ups”. Even our daughter, after being born at home, was checked within minutes of her birth and continues to be checked regularly. To round out the picture of a healthy mind, body and spirit, we also have made a lifelong commitment to continually learning about and improving upon supporting healthy nutritional habits and a healthy state of mind, both as a family and for our practice members.

Dr. Richard Asks some important questions of interest to Downtown Calgary residents - Chiropractor Downtown Calgary Dr. Richard Asks...

Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Downtown Calgary chiropractic practice.
What happens if you stop chiropractic care when you feel better?
Many Downtown Calgary folks recognize that this predisposes you to a relapse. Chiropractors know that muscles and ligaments supporting the spine don't fully heal until after symptoms subside.
