Care for Kids

Chiropractic care for children is different from that for adults. Tailored to their age and weight, their adjustments often require no more pressure than you’d use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Children seem to innately enjoy their chiropractic care and look forward to their visits.

Can you identify the signs of spinal nerve interference in your children?

Proper maternal nutrition, exercise and regular chiropractic care help create the best opportunity for healthy prenatal growth. Types of baby clothes, bassinets and car seats are also things to think about. These are important, but consider the trauma of the birth process. Pulling, forcing and twisting a baby from the birth canal are still too common. Cesarean section, forceps, suction extraction or eager hands can do unseen damage. Even “natural” birthing methods can cause subluxations. Subluxations are areas of your baby’s spine that interfere or distort controlling nerve impulses between the brain and body. With vital neurological signals compromised, your child’s health may be impaired from his or her first breath. Other problems can appear years later.

How can something as natural as being born cause subluxation?

Being born is a natural phenomenon. It’s what we’ve done to the birth process that has become increasingly suspect. In hospitals, birth is often treated like a disease. A newborn’s introduction to the world is often accompanied by a severe drop in temperature, loud noises and other stressors. The administration of drugs and anesthesia can also have a profound negative effect on a newborn.

Will adjustments hurt my child?

This is a common concern among parents who mistakenly think that their child will receive adjustments like the ones they receive. Adjusting techniques are modified for each person’s size and unique spinal problem, and an infant’s spine rarely has the long-standing muscle tightness seen in adults. This makes a child’s chiropractic adjustments gentle, comfortable and effective.

Sadly, many childhood aches and pains are passed off as “growing pains” or “just a phase they’re going through.” Careful! Aches and pains at any age are a sign that something isn’t right. Subluxations may be involved.

Seek accurate information about your child’s health and make an informed choice.  First, make sure your child has the best chance to be all that they can be by having a nervous system free of.  Much like proper attention and regular maintenance of teeth can prevent problems over time, so can proper attention to the structure and function of the spine prevent issues as we age.
